Senate Page Day Two: First Day on the JOB!

As written on May 26th, 2015!

"When describing my first day on the job, there is only one word that does this justice: NERVE-RACKING (yes, I know that it is two words)! The day comprised of a near two-hour long orientation session and the inevitable tour of both the Legislative and General Assembly buildings. However, it was great that I was able to make some friends within the Senate Page group: Adenike, Ellie, Andrew, Connor, Braden, Niqua and Macy (my roommate).

Around 2pm, we had to report to the Senate Chamber for session. Before the session, we took pictures with the senator of our districts. My senator is Don Davis of Greene County (and he's also Andrew's senator, which I thought was pretty cool).  Shockingly, my most favorite part of the day was actually being able to watch this week's first session in action! As Senate Pages, we delegated certain duties, such as passing out papers, transferring messages for senators, and switching out positions within our quad, or section of the chamber. Also, a great piece of advice that the Senate Page coordinator, Mr. Michael Perdue gave us is that we should NEVER walk in the "well" (center) of the chamber during meetings, because it would be deemed as disrespectful. There are some exceptions, though; the exception being whenever a senator proposes an amendment, and the page is asked to take the document to the stand. But, YOU CANNOT WALK BACK THROUGH THE WELL. You must walk out the outer way.

There was one particular bill that the senate discussed that caught my attention: Amendment 1, which see as one of the most important amendments in the U.S. Constitution. If you want my honest opinion, I feel that there should be little change to the Amendment. Despite the many, MANY controversies, I see it as a very self-explanatory statement, and that statement should continue to be carried out for many years to come.

After work, Macy and I went to see American Sniper, which focuses on the life of the late Chris Kyle, which is played by Bradley Cooper. Now, I am not the one for sad stories, but that movie really moved me in ways that I never thought of. Those of you who have not seen this movie, please do so!!!

Overall, it was fun and very experimental day!"

That was a mouthful, right?!?! Haha, day three is one the way! Hope you guys enjoy!
