Senate Page Day Three: Busy Days!

As written on May 27th, 2015!

"What a busy day I had to conquer today! I'm talking multiple trips back and forth between the Legislative and Legislative Office Buildings. We were assigned to choose an 8:00am committee meeting, along with choosing either one of the meetings that were scheduled for 11am, 1pm and 4pm. I chose the 1pm meeting, which mainly focuses on finances. The meeting was interesting to me, because there was a discussion about certain types of alcohol being sold in ABC Stores that are not sold in general stores such as hard liquor. One of the repetitive comments that I heard was that they [the senators] were not aware of the increase of the alcohol business in North Carolina. Now, I mentioned earlier that I also had an 8am committee meeting to attend as well, which focused on natural and economic resources. Needless to say, there was only one bill reviewed and the meeting was adjourned in 15 minutes tops.

Some of the more fun parts of the day is when I was able to go with three other pages (Ellie, Tristan and Arturo) to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. There, we got to see a bunch of cool exhibits contained live and modeled (fake) animals, but the fake models of the animals seemed so realistic, that you would have to walk up closer to make sure that your eyes weren't playing tricks on you! Another highlight of the day was when we were able to attend a National Guard Expo and be able to meet with soldiers of different positions, exhibits, and many different stories to tell. The expo was located on the field of the Legislative Office Building. I tried on one of their body suits that they use for protection. Boy, I was hot! I really do not know how theirs bodies can stand a bodysuit in 90-degree weather!

Today's session was nearly an hour long. The key topics of the session: the 1st readings of the Money Graham Occupancy Tax and Sale of Antique Spirituous Liquor. Also, we had to take a 5-10 minute recess in order for one of the senators to confer with the guest judge. I noticed that a majority of the bills that were being voted on were in the third reading, which makes it easier for the senators to vote on. Today's session was much simpler than yesterday's session.

After work, myself, Macy and several other pages (Niqua, Michyla and Angela) went out to eat at the Bahama Breeze restaurant. It was a bonding experience! I found out that we are similar in many ways: such as music, TV shows, and even the same type of education! All of us go to either a private school or early college. Afterwards, we went to the Crabtree Mall. All of us bought clothes except for Angela. I bought myself three shirts and a pair of shades. We separated into two groups: I went with Niqua and Angela and Macy went with Michyla. We were laughing the whole way through and it was a great time for all of us!"

This was the best day out of all four days for me. Very eventful! Hope you guys enjoy! The final day, day four is next!
