New Path: Aromatherapist

Recently, I enrolled in a FREE online Introduction to Aromatherapy course with the New York Institute of Aromatic Studies. After practicing aromatherapy by myself, I felt that this was the perfect opportunity to take the free online course and learn more about it. Patents and certifications will come in the future. Oh, and it's self-paced.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this career, Aromatherapy, also known as Essential Oil Therapy, "encompasses the holistic application and use of essential oils to support the health and well-being of the individual." Although aromatic plants have been utilized by humans for thousands of years, aromatherapy, as we know it today, is relatively young. To me, aromatherapy is a unique mix of the arts and sciences, in which the art component is shown in the way one expresses themselves through blending essential oils, and the scientific components of safety, health and experimenting with processes of distillation and diffusion (which I will discuss later).

I got into aromatherapy during my time in college. I was going through a rough patch dealing with anxiety, and I was desperate to find anything to cope with the issues. The counseling center on campus has a relaxation room that I frequently visited in order to clear my cluttered mind. The relaxation room had aromatic perfumes from the Art Naturals company, and I noticed that it brought a sense of relief to me. There was one particular scent that specialized in anxiety (though I cannot remember the name), and it brought about a relaxing sensation. One day after classes, I looked into aromatherapy and immediately fell in love with it! I fell in love with the unique blend of the arts, sciences, health, and spirituality that aromatherapy brings. However, I must mention that aromatherapy, like many other things, has its precautions. Firstly, one must safety precautions when using essential oils, because THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE USED DIRECTLY ON THE SKIN. Also, it is good to consult your doctor on whether aromatherapy may be a good solution for your ailments. Thankfully, Aromatherapy is not just for the body, as it can also be used for incense, cleaning, air fresheners, showering, refreshments, your hair, etc.

Now, I will give you two recipes that I have created on my own. Please be mindful of the disclaimers that were aforementioned:

  • Shower Melts

      • 1/3 cup of Water

      • Allow cooling completely. Once cool, removes from liners and place in container or baggie.

      • Store in a cool dark and dry place
      • To use, spray onto your scalp as needed to boost hair growth
Those are just two of my favorite recipes! If you are looking for a holistic approach to healthy living, then aromatherapy is for you. You can either do it in your daily lives, or you can make a full career out of it, which is what I plan to do. After completing the free Introduction to Aromatherapy course, I plan to get a NAHA (National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy) Certificate from the New York Institute of Aromatherapy.

That's it from me, folks! I look to increase my blogging as time goes on. I have even thought about revamping my professional wrestling blog. Not sure yet, but I am fortunate to have many life paths that I can take. Until next time!
